CARBONIZATION OF RAW MATERIAL

Carbonization is a heating process whereby the raw material is subjected to a high temperature heating process between 300-500 C, whereby volatiles are drived out during the process. The carbon content is enriched, an initial porosity and some ordering in the carbon structure is formed.

Carbonization of Charcoal
Charcoal used by Effigen to produce activated carbons has to meet the minimum requirement of:

  • Fixed Carbon: 80% min.
  • Volatile Matter: 10-15%
  • Ash Content: 5% Max
  • Moisture Content: 5%Max
  • According to this procedure, an average of 3.3 tons raw material is used to produce 1 ton of charcoal.
